International Yoga Day 2026

The 12th International Day of Yoga — Why It Matters

Proclaimed by the United Nations on 11 December 2014, June 21 has been observed globally as International Yoga Day since 2015. The 2026 edition marks a significant 12th anniversary.

The 2026 theme — "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" — highlights yoga's profound role in mobility, mental well-being, and longevity, improving not just lifespan but "healthspan" — the years spent in good health.

Who Can Participate?

Exclusively IYS® Registered Teachers

Participation is open exclusively to Yoga Teachers registered with IYS® — International Yoga School, a division of IYO® International Yoga Organisation.

You're Already In

As a registered IYS® teacher, you are already eligible — no additional sign-up or registration is required to lead your sessions.

Free for the Public

All sessions are offered completely free of charge to the public as a meaningful act of community service and social contribution.

Follow these five steps to deliver a meaningful, community-centred session that brings the spirit of International Yoga Day 2026 to life — right in your neighbourhood.

Plan Session

Design an accessible session for all ages, aligned with the Healthy Ageing theme

Invite neighbours, community members, and share on social media

The UN's official 2026 IDY theme underscores yoga's profound role in mobility, mental well-being, and longevity across all age groups. It's not just about lifespan — it's about "healthspan": the years spent in genuine good health.

Research publications on "Yoga for Healthy Ageing" on PubMed Central grew from 183 studies (2014) to 1,207 studies (2025) — a testament to yoga's expanding global recognition.
